Cardiology
In India, more than ten lakhs of people lose their lives every year because of heart problems. At Aaxis Hospital, Belthur, we aim to reduce the disturbing numbers of cardiovascular diseases through our enthusiastic team of cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses providing complete and multi-disciplinary care to patients with various heart diseases.
A specialised team of experts manages the Cardiology Department, which focuses on a comprehensive approach to Cardiac Care through invasive and non-invasive therapeutic and diagnostic treatments. Interventional Cardiology and Cardio-Thoracic Surgery are both part of the Cardiology department.
Department of Interventional Cardiology provides advanced diagnostic tests and treatment for problems as routine as a bout of chest pain (Angina), severe conditions such as heart attack (Myocardial Infarction) and rare diseases like Tricuspid Atresia. The Invasive Cardiology handles Coronary Artery Disorders, using Angioplasty, Stents, Laser, Ultrasound techniques etc.
Cardiothoracic Surgery
The department of Cardiothoracic staff works with the newest surgical techniques, equipment. Each year our skilled cardiothoracic surgeons care for hundreds of patients, young and old, who need every type of heart surgery.
Angiography
Angiography is a diagnostic procedure that helps identify the site and extent of the problem in the blood vessels by using X-ray pictures. In conditions like stroke, pain in the chest, heart attack, and other blood vessel-related issues, Angiography is performed in the cath lab to detect the problems.
Usually, Angiography takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. Mild sedation may be given. During Angiography, a long slender tube called a catheter is inserted into the artery (generally, in the groin area). Through the catheter, a little amount of contrast material is injected into the blood vessel section, and X-rays are taken. The contrast agent allows the blood vessels to look at the X-ray pictures. A doctor specially trained in Angiography reads the X-ray pictures to understand the source of the problem and the degree of damage to the observed blood vessel segments.
Angioplasty & Stenting
This is a technique used to restore the blood flow through a blocked artery. Widening the blockage with the balloon is called Balloon Angioplasty, and deploying a stent is called Stenting. Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) or percutaneous coronary intervention is the technical term for balloon angioplasty (PCI).
CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
Coronary artery bypass grafting is the surgical procedure in which the grafts are linked up to the blocked arteries. This surgery aims to supply the starving heart muscle with more blood bypassing the blockages.
The surgeon studies the coronary arteries and prepares the tailormade plan of revascularization to address the patient needs. Once the surgeon joins the grafts, blood flows through them into the blocked arteries beyond the blocks, thus bypassing them. The obstructions are bypassed rather than removed, hence the name bypass surgery!
Heart Valve Surgery
These are performed for the treatment of anomalies like Mitral Regurgitation (MR) (a valvular heart disease which results in the abnormal leaking of blood through the mitral valve, from the left ventricle into the left atrium of the heart), or Aortic Stenosis (a condition where the aortic valve becomes thinner than usual, obstructing the flow of blood) are regularly did.
